Hello there, I’m going to introduce some Korean movies to you.

The next movie that I’m going to introduce is ‘26years (26년)’. This movie was released at November 28^th, 2012. The director is Guen-Hyun Cho. He has directed many famous movies like ‘My way’, ‘GoGo 70s’ and ‘Herb’. The movie ‘26years’ is made out from Webtoon by Kangpull. Kangpull is famous Webtoon writer. Wbtoon is cartoons that authors post on the web. Many of Kangpull’s webtoons were made in to movies. Main characters are Jin-Gu, Hye-Jin Han, Suel-Ong Lim and Su-Bin Bae.

 The movie is about the revenge of some people who had lost their family because of the dictator. In 1980, Korea was in a chaos because of dictators and coup. And the dictator Du-Hwan Jun is ‘elected’ as a president. So many people got mad at the unfair situation and undemocratic society. So people in city Gwang-Ju, started demonstration against the president. But the president was a soldier, so he just order to kill all the people who are against him. This is the Gwangju Democratization Movement. In this movement thousands of people died.

 In this movie, there are 3 people who lost their family. One guy came to see them and tell them to join with him. The guy was planning to kill Du-Hwan Jun. Du-Hwan Jun is still alive. The guy’s father was a soldier when he was young and he did kill people at Gwngju at 5.18. But he regret his acts so he try to kill the Du-Hwan Jun. they plan all the story. But Du-Hwan Jun is still protected by the government and the police. So it is hard to get closer to him. But all 4 of them think about their pains in the life and try their best. Mijin lost her mother when the movement was occur and her dad killed himself because he was so shocked about Mijin’s mom’s death. Jin-Bae, he is a gangster but his mom got some mental problem because of the movement. And Jung-hyck lost his only family, his sister. But their plan fails. And the movie end.

I guess, Du-Hwan Jun is still alive so the director couldn’t kill him. But this movie made me to think one more time of sacrifices of many people who wanted democratic society in Korea. The 5.18 is a movement that we should never forget. There are still many people who have hurts. So many people lost their family and friends at that time. We should always think that the democratic lives we have now are really valuable and we should always try to save it.

 

I didn’t read the Webtoon but I liked it a lot! But one of my friends, she read the Webtoon and said that the movie is not that great as the Webtoon.

Blind (2011)

The next movie that I’m going to introduce is ‘Blind (블라인드)’. This movie was released at August 10^th, 2011. The director is Sang-Hun Ann. He directed movies like ‘Arang’ and ‘Rainbow’. This movie’s genre is a thriller. And it is rated R movie. When I saw this movie, I was under 18. But my friend downloaded it and we watched it together. The main characters are Hanuel Kim and Seung-Ho Yu.

 This movie is about one girl named Su-a who is blind and Ki-sup, the high school student. One murder case happened, Su-a was there, but she is blind. She was not blind when she was born, she had a bad car accident and because of that accident, she lost her eye sight. She was talented police officer.  There was another eyewitness, Ki-sup. He is a high school gangster. He report the accident to the police and he met Su-a too. But Su-a’s statement and Ki-sup’s statement are different so the accident got in to mystery. All the police try to catch the suspect.

 The real suspect is professional killer. He knew Su-a and Ki-sup know the truth of the accident so he try to kill them. Ki-sup and Su-a work together to find the truth of the murderer. But they got in to troubles that the murderer has made. they fight against the murderer and finally the murderer caught by the police. Ki-sup and Su-a became good friends. Also Ki-sup quit bad things he did at high school. He stared to study to become police and he pass the test. Su-a and Ki-sup became like family.

 This movie contains several cruel scenes like killing a girl, killing the dog and fight scenes. So if you don’t like cruel things, this movie is not that good choice. But I liked the tense when I watch thriller movie!   

Harmony (2010)

The next movie that I’m going to introduce is ‘Harmony (하모니)’. This movie was released January 28^th, 2010. The director is Dae-Kyu Kang. This movie is his debut movie. And he is working on new movie now. Movie Harmony had many audiences. The main characters are Yoon-Jin Kim, Moon-Hee Na and Ye-Won Kang.

 This movie is about one woman’s life in a jail with her baby. Her name is Jung-hye. She was pregnant when she got in to the jail. If someone give a birth in the prison, she is allowed to have the baby for 18 months and she has to send baby away after that. Jung-hye gave birth, and she start to raise the baby. In the jail, there are many women. They all have their own tragic story of lives.

 One day, women in the jail form choir. It is part of their social work. Jung-hye is bad singer but she try hard to sing well and finally she sings well. So she can sing lullaby to her baby. And she becomes friends with Mun-ok and Yu-mi. They cheer each other up and always practice hard to sing better. They became famous, so they got invite from outside. Women in the jail try to heal their hurts by singing and it seems pretty working well. Upper officers seem happy about it too. Time flies and 18 months passed. Jung-hye had to send her baby away to someone else. She was terribly sad but she didn’t have any choice.

 After several years, the girls at the jail give another performance at outside of the jail. And Jung-hye’s baby, come to sing with them. Sadly, Jung-hye’s baby doesn’t recognize her. They sing together and the movie ends.

 This movie is sad home movie. It shows the love of mother. I cried a lot after I saw this movie. It will be good time watching movies like this sometimes.

King And The Clown (2005)

The next movie that I’m going to introduce is ‘King And The Clown (왕의 남자)’. This movie was released at December 29^th, 2005. The director is Jun-Ik Lee. He directed movies like ‘Radio Star’ and ‘You Are Far Away’. Main characters are Woo-Sung Kam, Jin-Young Jung, Sung-Yeon Kang and Jun-Ki Lee. ‘King And The Clown’ had 1230 ten thousand audiences. So far by now, this movie is ranked in 6^th of most popular movie in Korea.

 

 The movie is about life of two poor clowns in Joseon dynasty. They are Jangsang and Gonggil. They are clown in the small country. They had harsh life but they had big dream of being rich so they decide to go to Hanyang, the capital city of Joseon. They are good at performance, so they join the other big clowns. So they perform together through the city. Their performance’s main idea is satire of the King and the government. At that time, the king was incompetence and the government was full of corruption. One day, the clown got caught by the government because of their too much satire performances. The king is mad so the king was going to weigh off them. But the clowns suggest that they will make the king laugh. They made a deal. Gonggil, the pretty and delicate clown, play big part at the performance and the king let them stay at the castle. (Gonggil is a man though.)

 After that, the clowns stay at the castle and keep play the show for the king. They performance about the corruption and secret of the castle that the king didn’t know. So the king got mad and killed many of his subordinates. So other subordinates were worry about their lives, they try to kill Gonggil and the clowns. Beside that the king fall in love with Gonggil, even though Gonggil is a mand and the clown. So the king’ fiancée got mad and try to kill him. But Jangsang say it’s all his fault and he lost his eyesight instead of Gonggil. And later, they performance together in front of the king promising that they will reborn into clown and perform together. And the movie ends.

 This movie can show people the corruption of the government at that time and the hardness of people. Also it implies the loneliness of life that everyone has. Also the visuals of this movie are really cool and pretty!

Maundy Thursday (2006)

Hello there, I’m going to introduce Korean movies to you. Hope you enjoy!

 The next movie that I’m going to introduce is ‘Maundy Thursday(우리들의 행복한 시간)’ This movie was released at September 14^th, 2006. The director is Hae-sung Song. He had directed movies like ‘The Old Family (2013), and ‘Love Affair (2012)’

 This movie had 3hundred ten thousand audiences. One thing about this movie, it is based on the book. The book’s title is same as the movie. The author is Ji-young Kong. She is bestselling book writer. I read this book before I saw the movie. So I was interested about the movie.

 The main characters are Dong-won Kang and Na-young Lee.

 This movie is about one criminal named Yoon-su and a gloomy girl named Yu-jung. Yoon-su is poor and had harsh life before he got in to the jail. He had one younger brother and he didn’t have parents. So he had to suffer all the adversities through his young life to save his brother and himself. On the other hand, there is Yu-jung. She was famous singer when she was young. And she is very rich. She can have everything she wants. But she is always gloomy. She tried to kill herself three times but fails all the time. Her aunt was worry about Yu-jung so she tell Yu-jung to go to jail to have talking time with the criminal. It is one way to treat mental problem. Yu-jung didn’t want to go mental hospital so she chooses to go jail. At the jail, she met Yoon-su. He is sentenced to be death. He killed two women but additionally, he got false charge. Yoon-su and Yu-jung didn’t get along well at first. They had such a different life before. But they start to talk their real story. They become honest with their feelings. Eventually they felt they had same sadness in their life. So they became real friends and fall in love. But since Yoon-su was sentenced to death, they didn’t have much time together. They know each others’ feeling. But later, Yoon-su got killed and the movie ends.

 This movie has some points to think about. First, Yoon-su was false charged because he was poor and didn’t have any power. So he got killed by the government. Second, it is important to have someone know how I feel. if there is just one person who know how I feel when I’m really depressed, the person can be a big help. If Yu-jung met Yoon-su before, she might not have tried to kill herself.

 This movie is sad and gloomy movie but worth watching it!

As One (2012)

Hello there, I’m going to introduce Korean movies to you. Hope you enjoy!

 

 

The next movie that I’m going to introduce to you is ‘As One(코리아)’ This movie was released at May third, 2012. The director is Hyun-Sung Moon. He has directed movie ‘Yoga Academy’.

This movie had 186 million audience. ‘As one’ had less audience than other movies that I posted but personally I liked this movie the best by so far among the other movies! The main characters are Ji-Won Ha, Du-Na Bae, Ye-Ri Han and Yoon-Young Choi.

 

This movie is made from real story which happened in Korea. In 1991, Ping-pong game gained popularity. Korea national Ping-pong player, Jung-Hwa Hyun always practices hard to get good score on Olympics. But as everyone knows Korea has been separated by two parts. The government wants to make good effort between North Korea and South Korea, so the government makes one team with North and South. So the North Korea’s Ping-pong players and South Korea’s Ping-pong players meet together and become one team. In North Korea, there are good players too like Boon-Hee Lee and Sun-Bok Yu. In first meeting, there are too many cultural differences between North Korea players and South Korea players. So they don’t practice each other. But they couldn’t get good scores on double matches. So the coaches tell the players to mix it up and make team together. So Jung-Hwa and Boon-Hee make team together.

 As time goes on they become really close friends and all other players get along together very well. First they felt they are so different, but later they realize they are same people.

 

 Korea always lost to China in Ping-pong game. But Team named ‘Korea’ won China for the first time ever! But still there were nervous between two countries, they had to say good bye to each other. It was sudden good-bye. They didn’t have time to say something. Just few days ago, they were one team, friends, and family but suddenly after the Olympic they had to separate. The movie ends with the scene that Jung-Hwa and Boon-Hee meet in other Ping-pong game and play together.

 

Maybe other foreigners cannot understand the sadness of the separation of one country. By so far Korea is the only country in the whole world that is separated. And in these days, North Korea and South Korea’s relationship is becoming worse and worse. In my opinion it is stupid to fight with same ethnic race people. Like in this movie it is unforgettable hurt for the separated families and friends. Also if Korea can be one, maybe we can win China in Ping-pong again and become stronger! But it is true that there are too many obstacles right now between two countries. I hope the two countries solve this problem well and be peaceful!

The next movie that I’m going to introduce is ‘200 pounds Beauty (미녀는 괴로워)’. This movie was released at December 14^th, 2006. The director is Yong-Hwa Kim. He has directed famous movie like ‘Take Off(국가대표)’, Main characters are A-Jung Kim, Jin-Mo Ju and etc.

 This movie’s genre is comedy and romance. This movie is about one girl’s dramatic life. Plot of this movie goes like this. There is one famous female singer in Korea. She is pretty and hot so she has pretty big size of fans. But she has big secret. She can’t sing at all! So she uses another girl to sing instead of her. Hanna, the fake singer, is the one who really sing instead of the pretty singer. Hanna has beautiful voice and she can sing nicely. But she is.. really big and fat. In these days, most of singers are pretty and cute especially in Korea, the appearance is very important to become a singer. Because of that reason, Hanna cannot even try to become singer.

 One day, her boyfriend dumped her with insulting comments, making fun of her big body. Hanna get really sad because of him and try to kill herself with medicine. But that fail too. With all of adversities she got from her body and face, she made decision to get plastic surgery all over her body. Head to toe! But she has father she has to care. Her father has mental disability. She feel really bad for her dad but she get the surgery.

 

 After big surgery, Hanna became BEAUTIFUL girl! Everyone look at her when she walks and everyone wants to be friend with Hanna because she is so beautiful. Hanna changes her name into Jenny and start new life. She becomes real singer and gets big popularity. And fell in love with the boss of the entertainment who she has loved for really long time. But the pretty singer who can’t sing, has big doubt on Jenny and find her secret out and try to destroy her. But later Jenny admits her truth and meets her dad and make big hit album by her real name Hanna.

 

This movie was big hit movie with 661million audiences. I think this movie has lots of things to tell people. Why fat and ugly people can’t be proud of their ability? And it was sad that oneself changes head to toe and becomes whole new person, losing their own individuality. We should seriously think about ‘Lookism’ that is widespread through whole world. The appearance is not all.

 

 The movie ‘200 pounds Beauty’ is good movie to laugh and think about our society’

The next movie that I’m going to introduce to you is Take Off(국가대표). It was released at september 9^th, 2009. It’s genre is drama(comedy). The director of ‘Take Off’ is Yong-Ho Kim. He has directed movies like ‘Mr. Go’ and “200 pounds beauty’. The main characters are Jung-U Ha, Dong-Il Sung, Ji-suk Kim, Dong-Uk Kim and etc. The movie is made out of real fiction that happen in Korea.  It was big hit movie with 839 ten thousand audience. It is the 7^th most popular movie so far.

 

 This movie starts at 1996 in Muju, Jeonbuk. Jeonbuk the state where I live so it was friendly for me to watch. Muju is very cold place. And at there the first Korean ski-jump team is formed. But the support from government is so poor. But the government keep pushing them to form the national team of ski jump. So the coach(Dong-il Sung) form the team. But the team is really weak. And some day Bob(Jung-wu Ha), the ski player, come to Korea to find her real mom since he was adopted to USA when he was very young. He met the coach accidently and join the Korean national ski-jump team. He didn’t like Korea before because he thought Korea gave up him. But after meeting good people and feel the love of the motherland, he forgives his mother and country. As a result, he become Korean citizen. All the members of the national team practice so hard and with their hearts. With all of their efforts, they go to the World Cup. But all other countries’ players laugh at them and they get into some bad accident too. Eventually, they fail to get good score. It wasn’t fair play. They dissapoint. But they never give up their dream to go on Olympics and get medals. Without any storing support from the government, they always try hard and practice hard. Later they got powerful and got many medals.

 

It is really touching movie how hard it was for the national team members to practice without any support. And also it give us time to thin about intercountry adoption problem. Several people who had experience like intercountry adoption, have serious problem in their life and the motherland do have resposibility for that,

 Anyway, the movie ‘Take off’ is a great movie to watch!.

Sunny(2011)

The second movie that I’m going to introuduce is ‘Sunny’

It is released at may the forth of 2011. The director is Hyung-chul Kang. He has directed famous movie like ‘Scandal Makers’. The main actors and atresses are Yu-Hojeong, Jin-Heekyung, Shim-eunkyung, and Kang-sora. It is mainly about girls’ friendship story so main charcters are all girls.

Sunny was a hit movie which gathered about 7 million audience. It is the 14^th the popular Korean movie by so far.

 

 The plot of Sunny is basically about the main character Nami’s highschool memory. Nami is a mother of a highschool girl, wife, and house keeper. Just normal woman in these day. Some day she visit a hospital and coincidentally she met her old best fried Chun-hwa. Chun-hwa is experiencing a really bad cancer. Nami and Chun-haw begin to recall the old good memories about their friendship.

Nami, the main character, lived in country. But she move to the city and begin new life at the city. It is all new to her and she try to adjust the city life. At the school, she met new friends. They are Chun-hwa, Jang-mi, Jin-hee, Gum-ok and Bok-hee. They soon became best friends. They are always together. They play together, they study toghter, they just stay toghter!. But later, they got graduate from the highschool. And at that time, the coummunication didn’t develop like tody, so they lost each other.

 So the grown-up Nami try to find all the girls for Chun-hwa, since Chun-hwa is going to die soon because of the cancer. So Nami DO find friends. Lots of things changed. They dreamed bing when they were in highschool, but the reality was not that rosy for them. The friends had suffer a lot of troubles in life. But when they met they felt the deep connection in them and there good friendship. Later Chun-hwa dies. The all the friends stay in the funeral, and they dance the song Sunny which they practiced when they were in the highschool. The movie ends!

 

 It is a good movie that makes you think about your friendship. And one of the reason that the movie hitted I think is that it recall the memory of 80s and 90s for middle age people. It is really digitalized these days and it is comportable. But it is sad when we think about the old days when people coummicate more by heart. It seem pretty heartless world with latest devices.

 

‘Sunny’ is a good home drama movie for young people to think about the affection of analog and middle age people to feel the good memories about their young lives!

Tower(2012)

I am going to introduce some Korean movies!

The first movie that I'm going to introduce is Tower.
It was released last year at Christmas. Pretty recent, right?

The director is Jihoon Kim who is famous movie director in Korea.
He made some other famous movies like Korea, and 7Gwang Gu, etc. And this movie was pretty big block buster. 

And main characters are Seol Gyeong-Gu, Son Ye Jin and Kim Sang-Gyeong. They are all famous movie stars. And there are other famous movie stars who show up in this movie. In personally i really like Son-YeJin. She is one of my favorite movie star. She is such a great actress and really pretty. 

This movie is classic disaster movie. The plot is there is a fancy tower in Seoul. The tower is really expensive so only rich people can live there.

But at Christmas, the owner of The Tower want to make fake snow which is dangerous. But the owner is stubborn, so he does make snow and that cause a big fire on The Tower. So the firefighters try to extinguish the fire. Also one worker in The Tower try to save his daughter and his lover . And one firefighter sacrifices himself to save others. 
And his lover try to save his daughter. Also there are several other families who try to save each other. I was really impressed by the work of the fire fighters. I felt terrible that all rich people survive and the poor people suffer. Also, when something is dangerous, you should not do that job. The disaster always happen without any warning. 

This movie is very typical, but it is valued as the best Computer Graphic movie in Korea. When I saw this movie, it was so real that I thought it really happened in Seoul. I am also very proud of the development in CG movie industry.

I saw this movie with my mom and sister and they both said it was good movie. So all age may enjoy the movie without any trouble.



You can be really touched by this movie. It also give you the time to think about your love of family.
